Facebook might have gone through some upheaval over the past 12 months and you may love it or hate it, but you can't ignore it if you are serious about promoting your business.
Why? Because it is and will remain for the foreseeable future one of the most useful and accessible platforms for anyone in business – regardless of your business size.
Yet ever month I meet dozens of business owners and I am amazed at how many are not using Facebook, or are using it, but poorly and then complain that it is ineffective.
(Remember, we can fix this for you!)
Let’s see if we can change some attitudes and help more businesses to prosper!
First, a look at some recent research data and whether it provides any compelling reasons to use Facebook.
Who currently uses it?
Australian research data as of 31 March 2019 tells this story:
Australia’s population is 25 Million (ABS statistic). Some 15 million Australians actively use Facebook (Facebook data) which equates to approximately 60 per cent of the total population!
Looking at it another way - 6 in 10 Australians use Facebook and 1 in 2 Australians use Facebook daily!
But it's really only young people right? Wrong!!
These are the age group demographics for Australia.
13 – 17 years age group (940,000 users).
18 – 25 years (3.5 million users).
25 – 39 years (6.1 million users).
40 – 55 years (4.1 million users).
55 – 64 years (1.6 million users).
65 years + (1.2 million users).
Or 6.9 million users over 40 years old! Facebook is the most diverse social media conversational (interactive) platform on the planet!
Looking at those demographics, also remember Facebook allows demographic targeting by age group, regions, interests, occupations - a whole directory of options – so it's not that hard to reach your preferred customer groups!
but I digress. For comparison - Instagram has 9 million Monthly Active Australian users (FB/Instagram data).
LinkedIn has 4.5 million Monthly Active Australian Users (approx. data) out of 8 million registered users – but LinkedIn and it’s increasing popularity is another story for another time!
One final important statistic for this post – 47 per cent of Facebook users only access the site via a mobile app!
This has a huge bearing on how you post content to Facebook and also translates to how your website is optimised too.
Our next post for your Easter weekend reading will focus on what you need to do to get the best result from your Facebook page – assuming – of course – that you have one!
