Looking for some Christmas gift ideas, fresh veggies, a family day out and to be able to support a great local community organisation?
You can do all of these things on Sunday from 10am at the Cana Farm Open Day, Orchard Hills.
Cana Farm is a community co-operative providing farm based employment, education and mentoring for disadvantaged people.
These include the long-term unemployed, people recovering from drug and alcohol addiction, refugees, ex-offenders and people with disabilities. Everyone gets a "fair go".
Volunteers provide support to people who have experienced extraordinary life challenges, providing the opportunity to learn from each other and to recreate themselves.
The result is a farm growing a large variety of fresh produce including veggies, fruit, flowers and eggs; bottled pickles, olive oil, sauces, condiments and Christmas cakes.
They also recycle wood into furniture.
Everything is grown, harvested or manufactured by people who have been helped to find a new purpose, skills and friendships in life.
Education is part of the learning experience and is provided via Western Sydney TAFE Outreach.
100 per cent of profits go towards maintaining employment or educational opportunities. Purchasing these products provides sustainable opportunities for people transforming their lives.
The Open Day will see all products on sale, farm animals and organised children's games. Admissions is free. Cash advised for purchases.
Cana Farm is at 100 Kingswood Road, Orchard Hills between South Penrith and Glenmore Park. (A short distance from the Flower Power Garden Centre.)
