Free small business webinars on cyber security

As businesses rely more on digital technology, they increasingly expose themselves to disruptive cyber attacks, so prevention is rapidly becoming a major issue for business, particularly small businesses, who often lack the knowledge and skills to protect themselves.

In response, the Federal Government's Department of Industry, Innovation and Science is running a series of free monthly webinars for business owners.

Each 60 minute lunchtime webinar focuses on a different aspect. They begin with identifying the kind of threats and why you may be targeted; how to identify threats; responding and educating your staff (who can often unintentionally facilitate attacks); notifying customers and legislative requirements (personal data can often be compromised); risk management and cloud cyber security.

Business owners are encouraged to take an hour each month to tune in and:

  1. Have an appreciation of the reasons why small businesses are becoming an increasingly prominent target for cyber attackers.

  2. Understand that there some simple steps you can take to improve your level of cyber resilience.

  3. Have a well-rounded understanding of the current cyber threat landscape and the details of what steps SMEs can take to mitigate the risks posed by these threats.

  4. Be equipped with the skills and knowledge to develop a simple and effective cyber security incident response capability.

  5. Understand the nature of cloud services and the unique cyber security considerations that come with using cloud services or engaging in other outsourcing arrangements.

  6. Have an awareness of additional resources they can consult for ongoing support with their cyber security issues and challenges.
